Ian McCafferty
Dr Ian McCafferty is a highly respected Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist, renowned for his expertise and pioneering work in prostate imaging and interventional radiology.
- Ian has played a pivotal role in advancing prostate cancer diagnostics and minimally invasive therapies in the treatment of renal cancer with ablation, embolisation for benign prostatic hyperplasia, varicoceles, pelvic congestion and vascular malformations.
- After qualifying in medicine at University College London, he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians and trained in clinical radiology in the West Midlands, followed by specialist training in interventional radiology and a fellowship at Oxford University Hospitals, during which he developed a particular interest in urological imaging.
- Ian started working at University Hospital Birmingham in 1999 and, since that time, has been instrumental in introducing multi-parametric MRI for the early detection and accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer and pioneering urological minimally invasive procedures.
- He regularly lectures at national and international conferences, has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and is a member of several professional bodies, including the Royal College of Radiologists and the British Society of Interventional Radiology, where he was president from 2019-2021.
- Ian was a founding member of both the British Society of Urogenital Radiology and Interventional Oncology UK.
