Mr John Parkin
Mr John Parkin is a highly experienced Consultant Urologist with a special interest and expertise in minimally invasive surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers.
- John graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School in 1994, then undertook surgical training. He was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2009.
- After completing junior surgical training in Scarborough, Bristol and New Zealand, John spent six years as a specialist registrar in the West Midlands. That included working in general urology, endourology and laparoscopy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
- In 2005, John was elected as a junior representative on the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) endourology committee.
- Having spent 10 years as a consultant urologist for Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, he moved to University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) in 2020, where he focused on building a robotic prostatectomy service for the Trust. Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy (RALP) has now become the default approach for most prostate surgeons.
- Today, John sees patients privately with BPS, where he specialises in prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, robotic prostatectomy, general urology and ureteroscopy.
- John has researched and published on a range of topics, including the use of laparoscopic techniques in urology, bladder cancer and kidney stones.
