What’s the best treatment for me?
Active surveillance, whole-gland therapies (including surgery and radiation) and focal therapies can all be good treatment options.
We won’t leave you to navigate a maze of leaflets and conflicting advice. Instead, our specialist team will offer careful, personalised guidance based on a clear view of what’s most important for you.
Which kind of patient are you?
- If you have a more relaxed personality, are perhaps a bit of a risk-taker and are not unduly anxious about a diagnosis of what seems to be a slow growing cancer, or perhaps you’re elderly and keen to avoid surgery, we might recommend active surveillance.
- If you’re very worried about the cancer or have a close friend who’s recovered well after a prostatectomy or radiotherapy, you may be inclined to opt for whole-gland treatment.
- If your sex life is very important to you and your partner, and if your cancer is well contained and you want to be rid of it with less risk of side-effects and a quick recovery, and are not too concerned about a higher chance of needing more treatment in the future, we’ll probably suggest focal therapy.
There are many other considerations we’ll want to balance. We’re here to help you navigate ahead with confidence in both the precision of your diagnosis and the long-term wisdom of our decision-making.
